The Course:
This is a survey course that will focus on World History and the past 300 years. More specifically, the focus of this course will be primarily on the 20th Century. The class will begin with review of the different forms of governement and the origins of democracy. According to the State of California, students in World History will study the major points that shaped the modern world, from the late eighteenth century through the present. Including the Industrial Revolution, the cause and the course of the two world wars and the Cold war. In order to do this, we will trace the rise of democtatic ideas and and develop an understanding of the historical roots of current world issues, especially as they pertian to international relations. You will also develop an understanding of current world issues and relate them to their historical, geographic, political, economic, and cultural contexts. You will consider mulitple accounts of events in order to understand international relations from a variety of perspectives.
